Ikuiset
A coming-of-age drama about what our greatest dreams cost us.
In near-future Finland, immortality has come true: at 18, everyone receives a treatment that stops ageing. Just before her own treatment day, 17-year-old Aurora goes outside the city walls to see her grandmother Rebekka, who refused the treatment and is now digging her own grave.
In Ikuiset, I ask what happens when our greatest dream comes true, and what it costs us. I am interested in the right to one's own death: who the body belongs to when society promises everyone eternal life and anyone who refuses becomes dangerous.
At the core of the story are three women, a grandmother, a mother and a daughter, who look at the same choice from three different stages of life.
